Andrew MacAskill (Group Leader)

Andrew is a Wellcome Trust Sir Henry Dale Fellow interested in the hippocampus, and its role in value-based decision making. He previously investigated ventral striatal circuitry as a Sir Henry Wellcome Postdoctoral Fellow at New York University working with Adam Carter. He did his PhD on mitochondria with Jo Kittler at UCL. His undergrad was in Biochemistry (Natural Sciences) at Cambridge University.

Picture
 Rawan AlSubaie (Graduate Student)

Rawan is studying how neurons in the basal amygdala interact with the complex output circuitry in the ventral hippocampus. In particular she is interested in how activity in amygdala can be translated into hippocampus-mediated motivated behaviour

Picture
Karyna Mishchanchuk (Graduate Student)

Karyna is intersted in how the ventral hippocampus interacts with the dopaminergic system in the ventral tegmental area. She is using anatomical and behavioural strategies to tease apart the 'hippocampus:VTA loop'

Picture
Svenja Nierwetberg (Graduate Student, joint with Marcus Stephenson-Jones - SWC)

Svenja is investigating how context can influence upcoming choice, and what role hippocampal circuitry plays in this decision.

Picture
Jessica Passlack (Graduate Student, joint with Neil Burgess - ICN)

Jessica is interested in the anatomical and computational principles underlying how communication between the hippocampus and prefrontal cortex may be used to support context dependent value based decisions.

Picture
Candela Sanchez-Bellot (Graduate Student)

Candela is interested in how neurons in the hippocampus influence circuitry in the prefrontal cortex, and how this is altered in mental illness.

Picture
Ryan Wee (Graduate Student)

Ryan studies how internal state such as hunger alters hippocampal activity, and how these changes influence behaviour.

Picture
Chang Xu (Masters Student)

Suzy is interested in how actetylcholine may influence hippocampal circuits during decision making

Picture
Kim Young (Graduate Student, joint with Michael Hasselmo BU and Caswell Barry, UCL)

Kim is interested in how actetylcholine may influence hippocampal circuits during navigation and planning.
